"City council member on 'Wheel of Fortune'".
Jason Blair, Moore city council member since April 2009, won a spot on the popular television game show.
The "Wheel Mobile" was at Kickapoo casino and he went there to fill out an application with "thousands of other people that were there," he said.
"They herded a bunch of us into a tent and randomly drew names," he said. "If they called your name, you went up on the stage and tried to solve a puzzle. My name wasn't called so I thought that was the end of it."
But, Blair received an e-mail nearly a month later telling him he had made it to the final audition in Oklahoma City.
Once there, he said there were around 100 people and they had to solve puzzles. They took a hand written test and the list was narrowed down to 20 people.
"You solved some more puzzles and then they basically said 'you might hear back or you might not," Blair said.
"I heard back one week to the day that I would be on the show," he said.
He received a letter in mail. Two weeks later, he received a phone call that said they "wanted me out there in two weeks."
He, his wife, Lori, and his in-laws flew to Culver City, Calif., Jan. 21 and were back in Moore Jan. 23. Their three daughters, Hannah, 6, Abigail, 4, and Elizabeth, 1, did not make the trip.
"It was a lot of fun and we could have stayed longer but with the girls here we thought we should get back," he said. "We don't like leaving them and its not as much fun if they are not with us and we decided make it a short trip. I'm very glad I did it. It was real blessing."
He was not able to say what if anything he won, but the show should air April 23, Blair said.
Although Blair was only lived in Moore six years, he is not new to the area. He grew up in Tuttle and attended Bridgecreek High School. His stepbrothers lived in Moore and played youth baseball and football with them.
He operates a Shelter Insurance company in Moore. Blair decided to run for city council because he "liked the direction the city was headed," he said.
"I knew I had the same values and beliefs the majority of the council and city staff had and wanted to get involved, keep the focus and heading the right direction. It is great and I have enjoyed every second of it. I definitely will refile."
