Chad Phillips, Emilee Walker and Lauren Wilson, graduates of Westmoore High School, have been chosen to serve as orientation leaders (OLs) on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Weatherford campus.
As OLs, the students will serve as mentors in this fall's eight-week freshman orientation courses taught by SWOSU faculty, administration and staff. The students are already involved and responsible for a large part of the orientation session for incoming freshmen. The students also will help facilitate Dawg Day activities held during the first few weeks of the fall semester.
The students are enrolled in a two-hour leadership course this spring taught by New Student Orientation Coordinator Shelby Adams and NSO staff member Jena Skarda.
Madison L. Alexander of Moore has been awarded the Horatio Alger National Scholarship worth $20,000 to fund her college education at a four-year college or university of her choice.
Alexander will receive the scholarship because she has faced and overcome obstacles in her life while she has demonstrated strength of character, a commitment to pursue a college education and a desire to contribute to society, said David L. Sokol, president and chief executive officer of the Horatio Alger Association.
