Carol Ann Warner, Apple Creek Elementary School music teacher, took the VFW's top award in the state for teachers.
Warner won at the Moore VFW Post 8706, won District 10 and then the state National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.
The VFW began the award in 1999 to recognize classroom teachers for promoting citizenship education with their students.
Warner was judged on three criteria: innovative approach to teaching citizenship; development of resources to teach citizenship education; and compassion to teaching citizenship education.
"We are very proud of her," said Moore Post Commander Jordy Ward. "She puts on a great community Veterans Day ceremony each year and it's nice to see her recognized at the state level."
Warner will now compete at national level.
