Prayer is a mighty thing

By Wanda Billbe

Placed on the upper corners of my Mother's grave marker are gold praying hands. A true testimony of her life, the praying hands represent what she spent her entire life doing -- praying for someone, especially those she loved.

But family members weren't the only ones to receive this gift, if a coworker had troubles, they knew where to go, "Just ask Marie to pray and it will be better."

Sure enough, if our dear mother prayed -- you could guarantee whatever the situation -- it would get better.

I can't begin to count the thousands of times I asked my mother to pray, and it didn't matter what time it was, day or night, or if she was in the middle of reading a book or building a dollhouse, she'd stop and pray for me and I know her prayers never stopped until she knew they were no longer needed for that problem.

My mother is walking in heavenly places now, but I have two wonderful prayer warriors in my sisters Irene and Rosemary.

Whenever I need help getting through any situation, I know I can count on them to pull me through.

I don't know how I would have gotten through this past week without their prayers. Work was so tough, so demanding, so complex that I felt I was being stretched be-yond my limits.

The only way I made it through was by their prayers lifting me up, shielding me from my problems.

On the third day, things at work were still the same, but about 1 in the afternoon, I realized something -- it was as if a giant bubble had been placed around me, shielding me from the darts being thrown my way.

Later that night I found out why, both of my wonderful sisters had prayed exactly that way, that the Lord would shield me and surround me with His love so I could get through.

Prayer is such a precious gift, whether you are on the receiving end like I have been this past week; or on the giving end where I have been countless times.

There's a gospel song that talks about someone praying for them, they can feel it -- about angels surrounding them. This happened for me this week, thanks to my sisters' constant prayer, and I know it can happen for you -- Prayer. It's a wonderful blessing from above.
