MOORE — Jayme Shelton has joined the Pioneer Library System and Moore Public Library as the business outreach coordinator. Shelton has hit the ground running since he began his official duties in April, said Diane Wallace with the library system.
Shelton, a native Oklahoman, earned a bachelor of science finance degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He comes to the new library position with a 12 year background in banking.
Assuming his position and outreach focus, Shelton has centered his energies on developing partnerships with the Moore-Norman Technology Business Development Center, Rural Enterprises Women’s Business Center, City of Moore’s Chamber of Commerce and numerous other local businesses and organizations in the Moore and Southwest Oklahoma City communities.
“Jayme has been instrumental in developing and promoting the Moore Public Library’s business materials and services,” Branch Manager Lisa Wells said. “Through his efforts, a new Business Resource Center housed inside Moore Public Library, is slated to be open to the public in October.”
“The purpose of the new center is to gain a centralized location to accommodate the needs of the business community, to assist new business owners and to introduce the public with information and resources for new business start-ups,” Shelton said. “The library’s business collection is growing with books, book discussion kits, training kits, databases and audio materials. Local businesses are always invited to use the library’s meeting rooms, computers, technology equipment and sign-up employees for computer training sessions.”
One of the main resources already flying off the library’s shelf are the business training kits, Wells said. Each kit is complete with a wide range of tools for an organization’s training needs. The kits were created to assist small business owners and non-profit organizations with resources to conduct successful employee trainings.
Each kit contains a facilitator’s guide, workbooks for participants, audio and visual aids, DVDs and CDs, and an agenda that can be adapted to fit each business’ unique training needs. A variety of topics are available and include interpersonal relations and communication in the workplace, supervisory and leadership skills, teamwork, creativity, ethics and customer service.
“A business’s training expense can really sky-rocket that organization’s budget,” Shelton said. “By using the library’s quality training kits, that are completely free, can save businesses valuable time and money.
For a complete list of kits available, access the library’s catalog or website at www.justsoyouknow.us. For more information or to reserve a business kit for pick-up at your hometown library, call Shelton at 793-4348 and allow three working days for delivery.
Future plans in the works for Shelton include monthly book discussion groups, leadership trainings, monthly business programs and events on timely topics relevant to business owners. Check the Pioneer Library System’s calendar of events for all upcoming business programs.
“With his winning smile and astute business savvy, Shelton is sure to be a dynamic addition to our library staff,” Wells said. “Jayme offices at the Moore Public Library, but look for his friendly face out-and-about in the Moore community. He is sure to assist you with your business needs and questions.
