Local teacher and artist dies

MOORE — Moore teacher, artist and community leader Jennie Eddy died Saturday at Houston. A dedicated teacher, Eddy always said, “the more you read, the more you know.”

She was the wife of Moore City Manager Steve Eddy.

Eddy was a Title I literacy coach at Kelley and Southgate elementary schools.

In her off hours, she was could be found painting one of her many landmarks and historic buildings scenes.

Her “Hometown Collection chronicles the growth and changes that have taken place in Moore since its establishment,” she wrote on her website.

Eddy has painted pastoral scenes and floral arrangements not only in oils, but also watercolors, charcoals, pencils, acrylics and other mediums for more than 30 years.

Her works are on display at many Moore establishments and is one of the featured artists at Master’s House Custom Framing.

Nearly a hundred people attended her first art show at Master’s House in September, 2009. Selling many pieces, she then donated the profits to the American Red Cross.

Eddy received her undergraduate degree at East Central University and her master’s at the University of Oklahoma. She resided in Moore with her husband. She was an active member of her church and has two children, Elizabeth and son, Matthew.

Funeral services for Eddy are scheduled for 10 a.m. is Friday at Emmaus Baptist Church, 16001 S. Western. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday.
