Back to school almost here

MOORE — Believe it or not it’s time to start thinking about school again for students in the Moore Public Schools district. The phrase “back to school” is one of the most hated phrases among kids of all ages.

It seems like it was yesterday when school was finally out and the summer fun could begin, but in less than a month school will be back in session for all Moore schools. Classes begin Aug. 19.

All of the elementary schools and middle schools begin at 9 a.m. and let out at 3 p.m. The three high schools begin at 8 in the morning and let out at 2:30 in the afternoon depending on extra curricular activities that student may be involved in after regular school hours.

“We are very excited for the start of school,” new superintendent Suzie Pierce said. “The summer has flown by but we are ready to get the year going.”

All of the schools in Moore Public Schools will serve both breakfast and lunch and those students who qualify will receive free or reduced price lunch and breakfast.

“To be approved to receive the free or reduced price meals the students must be approved by the federal government depending on what the income of the student’s family is annually,” nutrition director Pam Hart said.

A lot of children are curious about the dress code of their particular school. Moore Public Schools has one dress code that applies to all schools within the school system. Basically, there are no frayed, shredded, holey, ripped or torn clothing may be worn to school. There are no mini-skirts, short-shorts, low riders, bicycle or boxer shorts allowed in MPS. Skirts’, dresses’, and shorts’ hemlines should be no shorter than a hand width above the top of the knee.

Halter tops, off-the-shoulder tops, bare midriff tops, tank tops, blackless garments and muscle shirts are not allowed. Offensive writing, suggestive slogans or logos which pertain to beer, liquor, drugs, or tobacco, or carry connotations of immortality are allowed.

Students must wear shoes. Cleats, house shoes and roller shoes are not allowed. And there are absolutely no hats to be worn inside the buildings at anytime.
