Moore City Council members approved a project agreement with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation Monday to resurface the asphalt streets of Bryant Avenue, from SE 4th Street to NE 27th Street, and SE 34th Street from Bryant Avenue to Sooner Road.
The project is funded through the federal stimulus package. Community Development Director Elizabeth Jones said she had heard there may be more stimulus money coming next year.
If there is any money left, Mayor Glenn Lewis said he would like to build a bicycle trail between what has been recently built.
They approved the scope of work and contracted for engineering services with WMP Design Group Inc. in the amount of $212,328 for the general obligation bond project 3 -- NW 5th Street between Telephone Road and Markwell Avenue.
City manager Steve Eddy said the Santa Fe Avenue project was finally in place and the road construction will probably take a year to complete.
Steven Ferguson, Jerry Ward, Janie Milum, Jimmy Milligan, Amanda Nave, Amber West and Laura Lawson, all Moore residents, were appointed to serve on the 2010 CDBG Advisory Committee.
The board also approved a $7,250 for retiree health care benefits through Nyhart
Deidre Ebrey, economic director, asked the board to accept a bid, not to exceed $25,000, from Extreme Pyrotechnic, for July 4 fireworks.
Ebrey said it was the same company that produced last year's show and the city "received lots of compliments."
Meeting as the Moore Public Works Authority, the board approved a $28,807.88 change order. Assistant City Manager Stan Drake said Phase I of the wastewater treatment plant was done except for the punch list. He said the area they built the plant on was used as the old rifle range and a concrete dump site.
Drake said he nor the contractors realized how much concrete was under the site and that is why the project cost more than originally thought.
Meeting as Moore Risk Management, the board approved a $14,107.50 workers' compensation claim of Stephen Landrus and it will be placed on the property tax rolls.
Ebrey told the council that the new economic development report was done and could be picked up at City Hall. She also said there were many activities scheduled for Old Town including a murder mystery held in conjunction with the Moore library Big Read's Maltese Falcon and an art walk.
She also said if "you want a new restaurant to come to town, then you need to go eat at the ones we have.
Eddy reminded everyone that the 2010 Census forms were mailed out and to fill them out. Services are provided based on the population of actual addresses within the city limits. He also said if they are not mailed back by April 1, they will come knocking on your door.
