Blog posts for Friday, June 19

Cate Lynn, Westmoore High School, Orchestra/Oboe:

Watching the faculty showcases each night, everyone can tell what passion those adults pour into their discipline. It's amazing to watch their eyes light up as they attempt to convey what their form of art means to them. It's an opportunity of a lifetime to work with those passionate professionals who strive to pass art from one generation to the next.

Michael Stafford, Norman North High School, Orchestra/Clarinet:

I guess it's already Friday-times moves so fast here! The orchestra is getting even better, and my mouth has stopped being so raw [from playing the clarinet so much]. I'm starting to find out more about myself as a musician, and I'm starting to think more about my future. Aside from that, the weather's been nice and the faculty presentations have been amazing.

Tyler Martin, Westmoore High School, Orchestra/Percussion:

All vistas and backgrounds aside, the last few days have included a vast array of artistic exposures. Since Wednesday, I finally managed to grow fully accustomed to the schedule. I was able to fully enjoy the presentation from the photography technicians; Ben Long proved to be funny and informative, while Jill Enfield's insights on different photographic media were extremely intriguing. Yesterday the formal [ballroom] dance instructors gave cha-cha lessons and performed two styles of dance for the students. Both were entertaining experiences well worth the time; however, the most interesting presentation thus far was the modern dance instructor's. The passion presented by the artists he showed was present and powerful, and it displayed the impact of the body to the fullest extent.
