Elizabeth Jones, Moore community development, delivered good news to the city council Monday night concerning the energy grant the city will receive as part of the economic stimulus package.
The city will receive $454,000 to make the city more energy efficient, Jones said.
As part of the short term goals, Jones said, the chiller will be replaced at the Moore Public Library. At an initial cost of $91,000, it should save the city $6,000 per year in energy costs.
Six HVAC systems will be installed at the Moore Community Center at a cost of $225,000.. Energy savings should be $9,000 per year.
Jones said the system has to be replaced anyway.
City manager Steve Eddy said not only the energy savings would be a boost to the city, the time and costs of repairs at both places would be a tremendous saving.
Other short term goals include a city recycling center.
Long term goals include green training for city staff, vehicle fleet conversion and a recycle drop off center.
Assistant City Manager Stan Drake told the board work will begin soon on SW 19th Street and Telephone Road. He said he expects the work to be complete by summer and will not close the intersection although it will be narrowed to two lanes.
In other business, council members:
· Approved utility and drainage easement for Jack in the Box.
· Approved a utility easement north of SE 4th Street and east of Bryant Avenue.
· Accepted a storm siren easement south of SE 34th Street and west of Sooner Road.
· Declared certain vehicles and equipment as surplus property and will hold an auction at a later date
· Renewed a contract with Allied Waste Systems Inc.
· And renewed city insurance policies.
