Acting as the Cleveland County Justice Authority, Cleveland County Commissioners will negotiate a contract with Rees Architectural Planning & Interiors to act as construction manager for the new Cleveland County Detention Facility.
All three commissioners agreed Rees has a good track record with the county and has a knowledge of jail construction.
“Rees specializes in jails,” District 1 Commissioner Rod Cleveland said. “This jail’s still standing.”
In the regular meeting, the board stuck a proposed burn ban from the agenda.
There was laughter in the room when Chairman George Skinner said he didn’t “think there is a need” for one.
Commissioners will transfer 30 feet of real property previously provided to the county for a road south of Lindsey Street and west of Bryant Avenue to Walter and Fay Raney.
The county acquired the property Nov. 9, 1959 and was never used for a road. The Raneys are trying to sell their property and the strip surfaced during a title search.
Auctioneer services will be provided by Spaulding Auctions May 14 at the District 3 barn and May 15 at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds at the greater fee of $1,000 or 12 percent of sales.
Commissioners agreed to release funds for payment to Murphy & Associates in the amount of $3,750 for services rendered for the Cleveland County Rural Water District 1 grant.
Commissioners also:
• Accepted bids for oils, lubricants, antifreeze for the county and six months accept award later laptop computers and accessories for the sheriff’s office. They will awards bids later.
• Awarded bids to multiple vendors for road oils, emulsions and sealants.
