UPDATED: Suspects arrested in west Norman manhunt

A police manhunt in west Norman led to a temporary lockdown at Truman Elementary School Wednesday morning before three persons were arrested.

Moore and Norman police officers, aided by Oklahoma Highway Patrol and tracking dogs, were searching for three persons. Police arrested one woman and two men about 10 a.m.

Norman police said the chase originated in Moore. Officials there said an off duty Moore police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle outside the credit untion where he was working.

Police spokesman Jeremy Lewis said the officer called for help and when the uniformed help arrived the suspect SUV, which was identified as stolen, took off prompting the pursuit. Lewis said the chase reached speeds near 100 mph.

The vehicle’s occupants abandoned the car in Norman at Middlefield Court and Meadow Ridge Road. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol helicopter was also involved in the manhunt.

Norman school superintendent Joe Siano said the school was notified of a police pursuit in the area.

“Truman staff did an excellent job in reacting to the police request and we appreciate the Norman police for their prompt notification of the school,” Siano said.
