MOORE — Randall Robison figured now was the perfect time. Robison ended his tenure as the Westmoore boys and girls soccer when he handed in his letter of resignation last week.
“I think it is a good time to look into other things,” Robison said.
Robison said his leaving his post after six years with the Jaguars was a hard decision. But one he felt he needed to make if he was going to make the jump to the next level anytime soon.
“There are three of four collegiate opportunities that might open up for me,” Robison said. “Coaching in the spring doesn’t leave time for that because colleges want to fill those positions while you’re still in the middle of a season. I just want to reposition myself for that. I might get back into club coaching.”
Robison coaches at the Advantage Soccer Academy and plans to spend more time there. But the majority of his extra time will be used n his family.
“Spending more time with my kids andgoing to more soccer games with them,” Robison said. “The next few years are going to be interesting with in-school athletics and the new high school. I felt it’s probably best for someone else to lead Jaguar soccer. I am just ready to move on.”
However, that doesn’t mean Robison will not miss being the Jaguars’ skipper. In six years as the boys coach he amassed more than 50 wins and has developed some of the best players in the state in that time.
“I will miss the kids the most,” Robison said. “Each boys team had its own personality. And working with the girls this year was good for me. I still plan on teaching at Westmoore and will still get to see them. But I will miss spending three hours after school with them.”
Robison said that he had been thinking about this decision throughout the year and figured htat no matter how the season ended, this would be his last.
However, Westmoore athletic director Chris Crosbie was still caught off-guard with Robison’s announcement.
“It was a surpise,” Crosbie said. “They have some good young players coming back. It did kind of shock us.”
Because Robison was both the boys and girls coach, Crosbie said Westmoore will look to fill two postions. They do not want to have one coache over both programs again.
“The paperwork is just being finalized,” Crosbie said. “Then the job will be posted. Then we will start screening and interviewing. We don’t have a time table but we do want to done as quickly as we can.”
The 37-year-old Robison grew up near Tulsa and coached at Oral Roberts University, the University of Tulsa and at Norman High School before coaching the goalkeepers at the University of Oklahoma for four years. And now he finds himself wanting to get back into the college arena.
Yet, Robison knows that the last few years at Westmoore will be hard to replace, regardless of where he goes.
“There are kids that will stand out and there are accomplishments that will stand out,” Robison said. “The last two years I have been very proud of the style of soccer we have played. They were viewed as one of the best teams in the state.
