Lions stil have a shot at playoffs

But they need a lot of help

MOORE — Despite Friday’s loss to Edmond Santa Fe, there is still a ray of hope for Moore. The Lions’ playoff life has not been extinguished yet.

At 3-3 in District 6A-1, the Lions are tied with Santa Fe for the final spot. Moore’s most certain way to get in is with a victory this week, along with a loss by ESF.

If the Lions lose to North, they would still need Mustang to defeat Edmond Santa Fe. If that took place, there would be a three-way tie between Moore, ESF and Mustang.

The last playoff spot would end up going to the team with the biggest point differential. Heading into the final week, Moore leads in that category with a plus 19. They are two points ahead of ESF and 24 in front of the Broncos.

Moore must prepare for Norman North, which travels to Moore Stadium as the seventh ranked team in 6A.

The Timberwolves (7-2, 5-1) are coming off a loss to Lawton High, and are now in a three-way tie the lead in District 6A-1. North needs to win in order to get the top seed out of the district.

MHS will have to contend North’s Beau Blankenship, who is one of the top backs in the state. He ran for 215 yards on 38 carries last week.

However, the Lions do not enter this matchup empty-handed. Since his return, Jared Jackson has matched Blankenship game-for-game. Billy Balak, Blake Heintzelman and Taylor Gardner all can have big games.

North has had its issues stopping teams. After shutting down Putnam City North’s vaunted running attack in a 35-6 win a week earlier, Wolverines’ running back Chris Porter ran roughshod through North’s defense for 101 yards in the first quarter and 164 at the break.
