MOORE — Oklahoma placed six players in seven slots on the preseason all-Big 12 Conference team Thursday. The seven positions were the most in the conference and the six players matched Texas for the league high.
On offense, junior wide receiver Ryan Broyles grabbed two spots. The Norman native was selected at both wide receiver and kick returner.
Senior running back DeMarco Murray and junior guard Stephen Good were selected to the first team.
It marked Murray’s second straight season on the preseason all-conference team. He and Broyles were both named to the conference’s second team following last season. It was the first selection for Good, who made seven starts last season.
Senior defensive end Jeremy Beal and junior linebacker Travis Lewis were unanimous selections on the defensive squad. They were joined on the unit by safety Quinton Carter.
Texas A&M grabbed two of the preseason player of the year awards. Senior quarterback Jerrod Johnson was tabbed as the offensive player of the year.
The 6-foot-5 senior led the league in total offense with 314.2 yards a game and was fourth in passing (275.3 yards per game) for the Aggies last season.
Senior defensive end Von Miller shared defensive player of the year honors with Nebraska defensive tackle Jared Crick.
Miller was an all-Big 12 selection and an all-American after leading the nation in sacks with 17 and finishing fifth in tackles for loss (1.75/game). The hybrid linebacker/defensive end led the Big 12 in sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.
Crick had 73 tackles and 9.5 sacks for the Huskers last season.
Colorado junior college transfer Toney Clemons, who is a wide receiver, was named the newcomer of the year.
The players were selected by media members who cover the conference.
