The last time Southmoore touched the basketball court in a meaningful game was Jan. 23. Since then they have had to watch as games and several practices have been canceled to the weather.
The SaberCats were scheduled to get back on the court Tuesday against Westmoore. But the Moore School district canceled school and all activities for the fourth consecutive school day.
The game has not been rescheduled yet, but Southmoore coach Mark Harmon knows his team is looking forward to their rematch with the Jaguars, who beat them earlier in the season .
"Every time we play Westmoore it is going to be a big game no matter what the circumstance," Harmon said. "It's a rivalry game and both teams will be ready to compete."
However, starting Thursday, Southmoore begins a rigorous stretch of games that will determine a lot about the team's future. In succession, they face No. 4 Norman, No. 6. Norman North and No. 1 Midwest City.
"It will be a nice test to prepare us for the playoffs and see if we are ready to make a push for the state tournament," Harmon said. "We will probably be a little bit rusty but hopefully we will be able shake it off and be competitive."
In order for the SaberCats to compete with the like of NHS, North and the Bombers, Sidney Cook will have to be at full strength. The talented sophomore has been hampered by ankles problems this year and had to sit out the last matchup with MWC.
However, Cook's coach doesn't see that happening again.
"I think her ankles are feeling better and I don't think it will be too much of a factor in her performance," Harmon said.
Moore War
The Lions and Jaguars get their last shot at each other Friday when the Moore visits Westmoore.
MHS enters the game with a 4-11 record and has not played a game since losing to Southmoore in the seventh place game of the John Nobles Tournament. The Jags sports a 3-12 record and have lost six in a row heading into the matchup. That includes a 49-25 defeat to Mustang Jan. 26.
The last time Moore and Westmoore faced off, the Lions pulled out a 44-42 victory at home.
