SaberCats can't be ignored

Six Southmoore games to be telivised

MOORE — Despite winning only three games last season, Southmoore seemingly has a monopoly on media outlets this season. Magazine covers, newspaper articles and now television broadcasts.

Cox Communications and KSBI-52 released its high school football schedule for the upcoming season, and the SaberCats lead all teams with six appearances.

“I believe it is a by-product of the time and effort everybody in this program has put in,” Southmoore coach Chris Jensen said. “My coaching staff works extremely hard for these players and the players feed off of that. The players have committed themselves to developing their athletic abilities and it is evident in their strength and speed gains. We also have an extremely supportive group of parents who make this a special place to play football.”

Mustang was next in line with five games combined on the two packages while Norman, Norman North and Midwest City will be seen four times each.

Cox will begin its coverage Aug. 28 with the annual Jenks Trojans preview. The Sept. 3 battle between Norman and Norman North kick-off the regular season.

Southmoore makes its first of two consecutive appearances Sept. 11 on KSBI when they host Westmoore. The Jaguars host North Sept. 17, which will be shown on Cox Channel 7. Sept. 18 the SaberCats travel to Midwest City for matchup on KSBI.

Games against Edmond Santa Fe, North, Del City and Mustang round out the Cats television schedule.

“It is an indication that we are playing some really good teams,” Jensen said. “Every game I’ve seen on TV has shown two teams, so we are only half of the broadcast.”

For the first time since Cox and KSBI started televising high school games, Moore is not on the schedule. In the past Moore War between the Lions and Jaguars was one of the contests featured every year. But with neither team owning a record over .500 last year, their annual confrontation was left off. In its place Cox will show Broken Arrow at Tulsa Union while KSBI will cover Casady at Heritage Hall Sept. 4.
