Run game key in Week 2 matchups

MOORE — Week one of the prep season was all about the ground game. Despite almost every team in the state running some version of the spread offense, it was tailbacks who were front and center in key wins.

That includes Westmoore (1-0) and Southmoore (2-0), who will face-off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Moore Stadium. The Jaguars Cody Feuerborn and Southmoore’s Andrew Long combined for more than 600 yards on the ground last week.

Feuerborn used 43 carries to batter Moore’s defense for 271 yards during their 21-14 victory. Despite the massive amount of carries, the junior averaged 6.3 yards every time he touched the ball.

Long was even more impressive. He posted 332 yards on just 20 carries for a 16.6 yards per carry average.

What has turned into an intense game in just three years will have the added spice of seeing which runningback will have the biggest game and help their team win.

While Westmoore and Southmoore take on each other in The Battle of the Big Cats, Moore heads down to Norman to face Norman High. The Tigers are riding the momentum of a 24-7 win over rival Norman North.

Moore will once again have to face a stout running team. Led by Donovan Roberts 209 yards, NHS ran for 259 yards against North.

Game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Harve Collins Stadium.
