In its first game of the season, Westmoore coach Steve Schwarz had to watch his team fall behind early. And without one of his best players in the lineup, the prospects didn't look good for a comeback.
However, the young Jaguars showed their coach they have that intangible in them as they beat Blanchard 9-8 at WMH.
"I'd say for our first game with a young team, they played pretty good," Schwarz said.
Blanchard bombed a 2-run homer in the first inning to jump on the board first. The rest of the game Westmoore was playing catch-up.
It wasn't until late in the game that the Jags figured out Blanchard's defense.
"We had been hitting hard all day," Schwarz said. "We just had to find the holes That was a real good defense by Blanchard. Every time we had runners in scoring position we would pop it up. The last few inning s we started hitting line drives."
Melanie Anderson picked up the win and also helped her cause by blasting a solo homerun.
The Jags (1-0) will face Southmoore March 23 when they return from spring break. The SaberCats are coming off a 9-6 win over Little Axe.
